About John Caldwell
I’m not a journalist and I’ve never played one on TV. Or anywhere else, for that matter….
I’m just a guy who has been in the email space since 1996 and gained a lot of hands-on experience. I’ve worked on the agency side, the client side, and as a consultant; and with a lot of different tools from ESPs to in-house to home-grown email systems. And while I’ve never worked for an ESP, I’ve worked with a lot of them.
Experienced in integrated email marketing, operations, and lifecycle messaging, I have brought my utilization of email marketing best practices, including customer segmentation and profiling, and operational analysis, to a number of major clients including Teleflora, eHarmony, Experian Consumer Direct (FreeCreditReport.com), and more.
I have had the pleasure of speaking at Industry events on deliverability and other topics. I am also a Member of the Email Experience Council of the Direct Marketing Association, where I am actively involved with the Measurement Accuracy Roundtable as a 2009 Co-Chair with my good friend, Luke Glasner.
While I’m always flattered when referred to as an expert, I tend to think of myself more as a practitioner. I’ve been at this for what seems like a very long time and am always learning something new in the ever-changing email world.
If you haven’t figured it out by now, let me state the obvious – I tend to be a bit irreverent and a tad cynical, so titling a blog, “Red Pill Email” seemed appropriate for me. I’m not one to blow smoke and PC to me means “personal computer” – and I’m anything but a personal computer.
That said, if you’re one whose delicate sensitivities are easily offended, this site probably isn’t for you – maybe you can find a “Blue Pill Email” blog site.
